RIP Brigitte Bardot

28 September 1934 – 28 December 2025

Today we say goodbye to Brigitte Bardot, who passed away at the age of 91 on 28 December 2025. Though the world first knew her as a film icon, her greatest legacy was the one she built after she stepped away from the screen — a legacy of fierce, unwavering advocacy for animals.

For more than 40 years, Bardot dedicated her life to protecting creatures who had no voice. Through the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, she fought against cruelty, funded rescue work, supported sanctuaries, and championed wildlife conservation across the globe. Her courage and determination changed laws, shifted public attitudes, and inspired generations of carers, rescuers, and advocates.

One of her most enduring quotes captures the heart of her mission:

“Animals have never betrayed me. They are an easy prey, as I have been throughout my life. That is why I will defend them and justify their trust.”

At Amaris Wildlife Sanctuary, we honour that spirit deeply. Every joey brought into care, every injured bird treated, every life saved is part of the same truth Bardot fought for: wildlife deserves compassion, protection, and a future.

Her passing is a reminder that advocacy doesn’t end with one person. It continues in the hands of every rescuer, every vet, every volunteer, every sanctuary, and every person who chooses kindness.

Thank you, Brigitte Bardot, for your courage, your voice, and your lifelong fight for the animals of this world. Your legacy lives on in every creature we protect.
